What is a Letter of Representation?
Letters of Representation are letters to the relevant prosecuting authority (usually the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC)) requesting them to drop/reduce some or all of the charges brought against you.
If the prosecuting authority accedes to the request stated in the Letter of Representation, it may result in you facing a significantly lower charge or even withdrawn entirely.
When to write a Letter of Representation?
Although such Letters of Representation are usually sent after an individual has been charged, they can also be sent prior to an official charge. As such, you should approach a lawyer as soon as possible to explore the alternative of writing early Letters of Representation.
How many Letters of Representation can I write?
There is no official limit to the number of Letters of Representation. Lawyers often furnish further representation letters in light of new circumstances and/or material facts.
